Brewers instead of Packers??

Posted by brvanlanen on September 17, 2007

I found myself doing something different this past Sunday.  Despite being a die-hard Packers fan I did what I never thought would be possible in September.  Driving to visit my parents instead of listening to the 2nd half of the Packers game I decided to turn on Brewers game as they are in the midst of a pennant race.  Imagine my surprise when I got to my parents house and saw that the Pack had not only won by a huge margin, but Favre had thrown three touchdown passes to move ever closer to the all-time touchdown record.  Not that I’m a huge Brewers fan, though I have started following them more the last two years, but I never thought in September that I’d pass on listening to a Packers game on a Sunday in the car.

Fred is in the race!

Fred08

Tonight Fred Thompson after much waiting announced on The Tonight Show that he is running for President of the United States.  Fred is a solid, consistent conservative in a race on the Republican side that consists of not much.  Although he is entering now, more than a year after some other candidates did Fred has a real good chance in a field where no one stands out.  Before even announcing he was consistently second in many polls and in fact won some recent Midwest straw polls.  I’ll have more thoughts on Fred later but for now I encourage you do what I did today … go to Fred’s campaign site, see what he stands for and volunteer.

Hello World

Posted by brvanlanen on September 5, 2007

Hello.  This is Try 2 Focus, my blog.  I thought in my first post I would tell you a little about about myself and the purpose of this blog.  I am currently located in the Fond du Lac, WI area.  I am in my thirties and married to a wonderful wife and we have two young children.  My career at this point is in IT as I am working in a contract position as a Workstation Support Specialist, a position I’ve had for about 2 1/2 years.  I am trying to focus on preparing for my CCNA certification as my career goals include eventually being a network administrator.

When it comes to politics I am a Republican, though unhappy with the lack of direction I see within the party.  I consider myself to be conservative both fiscally and socially.  This likely is a result of my upbringing and the fact that I am a member of the LCMS.  On that front I wish I had time to be more involved in the church.  But I leave that in God’s hands to lead me in the right direction.

As I learn more about blogging I will add more to the site, including a blogroll of blogs I enjoy.  For starters I enjoy Boots and Sabers, Real Debate Wisconsin, Josh Schroeder’s blog, the Book of Concord blog and Matt Kadow’s blog.

As for this blog I see at as an outlet to express my opinion and views.  I will occasionally post family life stuff, political stuff, religious stuff, sports stuff and fun stuff in addition to news and happenings around Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the US and the world.

Hope you enjoy.

Your comments are welcome but please be considerate of each other.  I will not tolerate vulgarity or trolling or ridiculing of others
