“No arsenal or no weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.” – President Ronald Reagan

Avoiding the real issue

Last Thursday a nine-page Q & A regarding the cancellation of “Issues, Etc.” was put out.  Much of it consisted of nothing new in terms of information.  There continues to be hiding behind “policies” and “financials” that raise questions, while the real concerns aren’t addressed.  For a complete analysis of what it says check out this four part analysis.

The message from David Strand – to improve the financial situation we’ve done nothing else and independent fundraising wouldn’t have helped.

Then there is the question of was it political.  When you look at the minutes from the April BCS meeting you start to wonder.  To coin Mollie’s phrase over at Augsburg1530, “veeeeerrrry interesting.”  To get the full picture you need to look at previous meeting minutes.  Then at the April meeting you have program re-instatement motions denied.  Add to that this little tidbit.  And this tidbit about the replacement show:

The new program, called “The Afternoon Show,” is different from “Issues, Etc.,” said Strand, in that “it doesn’t dwell largely on Lutheran apologetics at a sophisticated level. It still takes its Gospel proclamation seriously, but it finds new ways to capture attention.”

One would think that the Gospel itself should be all that’s needed to capture attention.

As Mollie says “Connect the dots.”  While you do that consider this personal statement regarding the COP letter and the whole situation.

Perhaps Josh sums the controversy up best by asking if we like the Kool-Aid provided on the LCMS website so far.  He also suggests a reading of 1 Samuel 8 to get a clearer view of what is happening.
