While the “Favre situation” continues with no clear-cut resolution in sight, the Packers have signed RB Ryan Grant to a multi-year deal.
Herman said the deal was completed at 5:30 p.m., CDT. It is a four-year deal that could be worth more than $30 million. Grant will make $4.25 million this season. That includes a roster bonus of $3 million and another of $500,000 plus a base salary of $750,000. In year two, Grant will receive at least $3.75 million, making it worth a total of $8 million in the first two years.
The deal is filled with elaborate escalators based on incentives but Herman said if Grant plays like he did last season, he would earn more than $30 million over the four years.
Herman said he planned to fly to Green Bay with Grant on Sunday and report in time for the team’s 6:30 p.m., scrimmage.
Bonuses aside the nice thing about this deal is that it is apparently incentive-laden with escalators. In other words Grant has to perform in order to earn the full value of the deal.
