Olympic History

Posted by brvanlanen on August 16, 2008

No one in the 112 year history of the Olympic Games has won 8 golds in one Olympics.  Until now.

A journey that started four years ago after his six-gold performance in Athens and included 17 swims over nine days here ended triumphantly for Michael Phelps on Sunday.

Phelps earned his unprecedented eighth Olympic gold medal of the 2008 Olympics as he swam the butterfly leg of the Americans’ world-record win in the 4×100m medley relay to close out the swimming competition at the Water Club.

8 golds, 7 world records, 14 career golds. Can there be any doubt that Phelps is likely the greatest athlete ever?

Georgia at fault?

Posted by brvanlanen on August 16, 2008

Perhaps Russia isn’t the aggressor many thinks it is in the Georgia-Russia conflict. Apologies for language in the first video.

Perhaps the American media just doesn’t want the truth to get out.

Another video on the apparent truth of the situation, apologies for the language.

I’m not sold on all the claims being made, but if genocide is taking place in South Ossetia, Georgia made a grave error and needs to be punished.

Paint the Fence

Posted by brvanlanen on August 16, 2008

It’s that time of the year.

Packers fans can start this season with a clean slate, or as the case may be, a clean fence. The famous fence facing Lambeau Field was given a fresh coat a paint Friday and ideas for this year’s slogan are being collected.

Slogans must be 34 letters or less. You can email your fence suggestions to Chris Handler at handy-e-vita-man@sbcglobal.net or mail it in to 3104 Essen Road, Green Bay, WI 54311

The new slogan will painted just in time for the Packers’ home opener on Monday Night Football against the Vikings.

Perhaps something like “Ride the A-Rod Xpress to the Super Bowl”

Obama-style change

Posted by brvanlanen on August 16, 2008

H/T – Peter

Barack Hussein Obama likes to talk a great deal about change.  Do we really want to sacrifice safety and security in the name of change?

Moving on up

Posted by brvanlanen on August 16, 2008

From State Senator to 1st term U.S. Senator to the presumed Democratic nominee for President in 2008.

Let’s hope it stops there.  Do we really want to elect as President a murder supporting flip-flopping hypocrite who has no real solutions for the energy or economic situations facing this country?
