"Before anything else, folks in Washington ought to be asking first and foremost, 'Should government be doing this? And if so, then at what level of government?' But they don't."
PO2 (EOD2)(Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Mike Monsoor, a Navy EOD Technician, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously for jumping on a grenade in Iraq , giving his life to save his fellow Seals. (Notice: Mike was not a Navy SEAL, he was EOD. He gave his life to save a group of Navy SEALS.)
During Mike Monsoor’s funeral in San Diego , as his coffin was being moved from the hearse to the grave site at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, SEAL’s were lined up on both sides of the pallbearers route forming a column of two’s, with the coffin moving up the center. As Mike’s coffin passed, each SEAL, having removed his gold Trident from his uniform, slapped it down embedding the Trident in the wooden coffin.
The slaps were audible from across the cemetery; by the time the coffin arrived grave side, it looked as though it had a gold inlay from all the Tridents pinned to it.
This was a fitting send-off for a warrior hero and it should be front-page news instead of the crap we see every day. Since the media won’t make this news, I choose to make it news by posting it.
I am very proud of our military. If you are proud too, please pass this link on. If not then rest assured that these fine men and women of our military will continue to serve and protect.
The Recall Doyle site is up and running. You will find a wealth of information about the recall effort and can sign up to help with the cause.
Why a recall at this time you ask? From the recall site:
An unprecedented fiscal crisis demands bold and immediate action to save Wisconsin from certain financial ruin. The longer we wait, the more damage will be done. The clock is ticking!
Jim Doyle is the de facto CEO of a $30 billion dollar corporation we call the State of Wisconsin that is being rapidly run into the ground. The buck stops at the top. Here just a few reasons.
There is no doubt that REAL change needs to occur. When a company is failing the CEO is replaced. Jim Doyle is the current CEO of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin is failing. Therefore Jim Doyle needs to be ousted by us, the citizens, before it is too late.
Recently, the Republicans held a publicity stunt they called a “Tea Party.”
The purpose of this stunt was to supposedly associate the Republicans with being a friend of the taxpayer. However, the Republicans notified the Green Bay Police Department of their stunt.
The GBPD then responded, as they should have, to ensure a smooth stunt and the safety of all those who attended, particularly those with the pitchforks. Therefore, taxpayers’ money was spent to “protest” the spending of the taxpayers’ money.
The Republicans could have done any number of other publicity stunts that would not have cost the taxpayers any money. They could have held a “Whine About the Economy” day on the radio. They could have held an e-mail campaign, a letter-writing campaign or a rally that had private security, or a rally that did not use the taxpayer-funded GBPD.
I fully support our right to peaceably assemble. I also fully support the taxpayer-funded GBPD to assist such an assembly. However, I would not write a 10,000-page book about how to save paper, and the Republicans should not have protested spending taxpayer money while spending taxpayer money.
If Republicans were truly friends of the taxpayer, they would reimburse the city of Green Bay for its costs.
Tom Sieber
Where oh where do we start with this letter from Tom Sieber, who didn’t mention that he is chairman of the Brown County Democratic Party. Not surprisingly the local paper didn’t identify him as such either.
First, the Green Bay Tea Party was NOT a publicity stunt held by Republicans. It was an entirely grassroots event organized to protest the mortgaging of the futures of our children and grandchildren by politicians in Washington with the government bailout bills and pork-laden spending bills. Funny how Tom claims it to be a Republican stunt when these have been held across the country including cities represented by Republicans.
Second, Tom claims attendees had pitchforks. Oh really Tom? I was in attendance and all I saw were citizens who have had enough with the way the government is spending THEIR money. And this dissatisfaction was shown through the use of signs.
Third, Tom whines about the reaction of the Green Bay Police Department and the fact they were notified of the event. Would the preference have been to not notify them? It was done as a courtesy. As for their response in the form of traffic control that was their choice, it wasn’t requested.
Fourth, Tom claims taxpayer money was spent on this event as a result of the provided traffic control and that it should be reimbursed by the Republican Party. Quite a claim Tom can you back it up with proof that there was extra expense incurred by the GBPD in providing traffic control? Can you provide proof that it resulted in extra officers being put on? The answer is no because there WAS NO EXPENSE INCURRED. Therefore there would be nothing to reimburse. And as was pointed out already this wasn’t a Republican event.
The fact is that citizens are not happy with the actions of their government and are making that displeasure known via Tea Parties. Apparently the chair of the Brown County Democratic Party hasn’t gotten that memo, preferring instead to call a grassroots event a stunt. Or perhaps he doesn’t want to address the issue resulting in Tea Parties – the government bailouts and excessive pork-barrel spending.
Oh wait Congressman Kagen thinks it is worthwhile to mortgage the futures of our children and grandchildren.
“It’s an investment we need to make to stimulate our economy,” Kagen said Wednesday in a phone interview from Washington, D.C., minutes before the U.S. House of Representatives put the $825 billion bill up for a vote.
I wonder if this guy would volunteer his time to the recall effort? From the local paper.
Seems every time we turn around Gov. Jim Doyle’s budget hits us with new fees, fee increases and attempts to redirect our money into his coffers. Meanwhile, Doyle cons the taxpayers into funding his annual vacations to Europe. Trade talks in Ireland? Last I knew international trade was the province of the federal government, not a state governor.
Going to study railroads in Spain? Give me a break. Jim Doyle is robbing us, the public, blind. Recall Doyle now and throw him out of office (if not into prison).
