The Tea Party movement is about love

Great piece in the Washington Times Communities regarding the Tea Party movement.

In the years to come, as President Ronald Reagan was known as “The Great Communicator,” will Barack Obama become known as “The Great Divider?” It is a crucial question for Barack Obama and his place in history. However, there is another related question – a question that is perhaps even more important and fundamental that Americans are now asking themselves. Does the U.S. Constitution still mean anything? In the wake of the passage of Obama’s healthcare reform – a bill so unpopular that Congress had to resort to a budgetary ruse called “reconciliation” to bypass normal Constitutional requirements – it is a natural concern.

To answer that question, there is no need to ask the pundits, the poll takers, the Ivy League scholars or elite New York sophisticates. Stay still for a moment and listen. Open your eyes and watch. See and hear what is taking place around you: everyday Americans standing up to a government that is attempting to dismantle the very ideals and governing principles put in place by our Founding Fathers. Ideals immortalized in the U.S. Constitution. A Pledge of Allegiance said by school children at the start of each day. Dreams reflected in patriotic songs and heart-warmed tributes to the things we hold most dear.

More job loss in the 8th district

So Congressman Kagen I thought all these bills that you voted for in the last year were supposed to result in job growth, not job loss.  Yet more job cuts have been announced by companies in the district.

First up is Bay Shipbuilding.

The State of Wisconsin says it was notified Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay will make staff cuts.

The layoffs will begin around May 30th.

In total, the next round of cuts will affect about 89 employees.

That’s in addition to 116 this month and 130 people last August.

The State says the company will aggressively seek new business and may be able to save some of those jobs if economic conditions improve. (Source: WBAY)

Second up is Aacer Flooring.

A Peshtigo employer is closing its doors.

Aacer Flooring is permanently closing its facility on June 1st. About 130 employees will lose their jobs.

The company says it was trying to find capital or business to keep its operations running, but is closing due to unforeseen business circumstances.

The Bay Area Workforce Development Board will provide rapid response services to affected workers. (Source: WBAY)

Two more reasons for Steve Kagen to be given a pink slip in November.

Grandpa Brett

Congratulations to the Favre family.

Favre released the following statement about his grandson on his website:

Deanna and I are very proud to welcome Parker Brett to the Favre family. Parker Brett was born on Friday, April 2, weighing 7 lbs. 7 oz and we’re pleased to say that both Mom, Dad and Parker Brett are healthy and doing great.”

“A grandpa at 40. It almost makes me feel old,” Favre said, according to ESPN‘s Ed Werder. As for its affect on his future with the Vikings, Favre said, “It makes things more complicated but right now I’m not thinking much about football.” (Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette)

Grandpa Favre and at age 40.  So will the birth of a grandson bring about a permanent retirement for perhaps the greatest QB to play the game?
